Leora - Barbara Kruger

Barbara Kruger is an American born artist who dealt with issues surrounding feminism. This piece is typical of some of her graphic work, which often involves black and white photographs with red and white captions. This piece is about the relationship between women, their bodies, and the larger society. The face in the photograph is split into two sections, which seemed to me to represent good and evil. Simply using the negative of the photo in the right half turns the woman's face into an almost angry expression. The contrast of the two halves depicts the "battleground" over the woman's body.
