Paolo Uccello ( b. 1397, d. 1475)

I chose Paulo Uccello because he is considered to be very important to the development of perspective. According to many sources, he was utterly obsessed with the concept; supposedly he would stay up all night trying to perfectly grasp a vanishing point or accurately employ foreshortening. As the image on the right suggests, Uccello was very methodological in his process. He is known for painting increasingly complex images, like the two battle scenes above, to push the use of perspective to new limits (or perhaps to, rightly, show off?). In any case, he was innovative as one of the first true talents of the emerging use of perspective.
