olafur eliasson

I chose the artist Olafur Eliasson. This summer, I was living in Brooklyn and therefore fortunate enough to see his most recent exhibit 'Take Your Time' (at the MOMA and PS1) as well as his 4 Waterfalls installed on the Hudson.

Eliasson is an installation artist who primarily works with light, as well as other "emphemeral" materials like air, water vapor, and reflections (another form of light).

Eliasson had his first solo show in 1992, but became widely recognized with his Weather Project (pictured here) at the Tate Modern in 2003. You can check out a video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dFOphuPqMo&feature=related

If you have ever seen the Tate Modern without this installation, the difference is pretty dramatic! I wish I had been able to see it in person.

I am tempted to avoid saying any more about Eliasson since his work is very experential. I suggest going to see a show of his in person. It's the best way to understand the material. And it is very, very cool!
Here's a taste of what was at the MOMA this summer (not sure where the exhibit has move to now...)
