This is not my T-shirt design project; I just like to stencil shirts. I buy some fabric paint and a $1.50 book of like six new stencils and get to work, and then I feel like the coolest kid on the block in my new threads. (The shirt furthest right is unfinished until those ivy leaves get some colors.)
Stencils illustrate the Gestalt principle of proximity quite well. Despite a lack of detail that makes individual pieces unrecognizable, the whole is easily understood. Also a bit of closure is hinted at in the T-Rex, as stencils have a hard time making closed eye sockets (obviously I could have closed it on my own, but the empty socket looked coolly skeletal to me, and I kept it. You know, 'cause T-Rexes are extinct).
