Quinn: contemporary art



This painting is called Stallions, by Julia Watkins. I'm captivated by the vortices of energy and life flowing through the horses, the wind, the grass. Still images usually try to show movement in terms of the objects portrayed. In this painting, it seems movement is the more primitive concept: the flowing currents of energy define the objects. This kind of duality of movement and object is fundamental in nature. Here's a real-life example of stable patterns in a moving material:
