This is a picture of Bas Jan Ader's performance art piece entitled "In Search of the Miraculous." that's Ader on the boat right there. He attempted to cross the Atlantic in 1975 on that tiny boat! According to wikipedia, after three weeks, Ader fell out of radio contact and ten months later the boat (without his body) was found. I'm posting this because Ader has become posthumorously popular (he had a major retrospective in London last year). He final piece was the topic of a documentary which came out in 1998.
I think his work pushes the meaning of art to its limits.
